 In 2022, WELAC conducted its first “WELAC survey” to document and understand the situation of women’s academic careers in the field of economics in the Latin American and Caribbean region. It collected data on the gender composition of the faculty and student body of economics departments in both public and private universities, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The objective of this survey is to gather data that encourages discussion on gender representation in the field and contributes to the development of relevant policies. The survey collected data from 84 economics departments in 10 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
